LIVE Race Tracking of the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012 with Facebook and Twitter updates and News on Road Closure

The Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon committee has added a new and exciting feature for family and friends to track the status and progress of participants in real-time on the event day. Details such as time, pace, and estimated finishing time will be instantly available. The live results system is available HERE! Participants can also have their progress posted directly to Facebook or Twitter by signing up at the website.

The APBIM Race Kit collection begins this weekend starting from 10 November at the open space car park located beside Coffee Bean at Queensbay Mall, Penang. For participants who have chosen to self-collect their race kit, they can do so on the date and time that they had selected during the registration. Participants need to show their IC or passport for collection. For those who will be collecting on behalf of the participants, they need to bring a copy of the participant’s official receipt and also show their own IC or passport to the collection officer to validate themselves as the person collecting on the participant’s behalf. The race kit collection dates are 10 to 11 November (10am to 9pm), 14 to 16 November (10am to 9pm) and 17 November (10am to 6pm). The counter will be closed at 6pm sharp and no collections will be allowed after that.

The committee would also like to officially announce DiGi Telecommunications as APBIM’s Main Sponsor, who has been sponsoring the marathon for five consecutive years. In conjunction with the marathon, DiGi has launched a campaign called “Train Smart, Run Smart with DG Smart Plan”, featuring a handy guide which introduces various running and fitness apps that encourages and helps participants to get fit and to train for the run.

ROAD CLOSURE: The Penang Bridge will be closed from 1.00am to 10.00am on 18 November 2012. For those who would like to cross to the mainland to the island on these times, they are advised to use the ferry service which will be operating for 24 hours on the event date. The ferry operates on a 20-minute interval. Other roads that will also be closed include the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway starting from Lebuh Macallum. Residents of E-Park, N-Park, Sunny Ville,Putra Place, Villa Emas, Gold Coast and Putra Marine Apartments can access their residences through the Tun Dr. Awang Roundabout.

Do take into consideration the heavy traffic that is expected during the event especially around the Penang Bridge area on both the island and mainland. For the full list of closed and alternative roads, please refer to the PDRM’s list below:

  4. Point 4- LINE G (from Perai Utara towards Penang Bridge)

Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012

Time: 1am to 10am

We would like to bring to your attention that the Penang Bridge will be closed from 1am to 10am on the 18th of November 2012 for the annual Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon.

Other roads that will be also be closed include Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway starting from Lebuh Macallum. Residents of E-Park, N-Park, Sunny Ville,Putra Place, Villa Emas, Gold Coast and Putra Marine Apartments can access their residences through the Tun Dr. Awang Roundabout.

Motorists are advised to use the 24 hour (frequency of 20 minutes) ferry services as an alternative to the Penang Bridge. However, please take into consideration the heavy traffic (especially around the area of Penang Bridge for both Penang island and mainland) that is expected during the marathon.

Runners who are not planning to drive to Queensbay Mall, you can hop on the FREE RapidPenang Shuttles. The shuttle will be traveling from Penang Ferry Terminal (Weld Quay) to Taman Sungai Nibong (opposite Tapak Pesta), and back to Penang Ferry Terminal..

About 10 buses will be operating non-stop from 11pm (17th Nov 2012, Saturday) to 12pm (18th Nov 2012, Sunday) to shuttle participants to and fro. Please hop onto any RapidPenang buses with digital board stated "FREE APBIM Shuttle" during the period with an interval of 15 to 20 minutes per bus. Runner can walk to the starting line from Taman Sungai Nibong through the overhead brige. Please use the flags along the road as a guide to the starting line

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the runners who have registered for the Allianz Penang Bridge Marathon 2012. Please note that ALL REGISTRATIONS WILL BE CLOSED starting 1st of November 2012.

The number of runners this year is 34,500 runners, an increase from last year’s 27,500 runners. This year, the Penang Bridge Marathon Committee will again be applying for the Malaysia for of Records for “The Largest Marathon in Malaysia”.
