A ceremony will be held on 16 August to announce ASICS Malaysia as the new official apparel sponsor of the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012, marking it’s inaugural partnership with the marathon to be held in November this year.
ASICS sponsors some 52 marathons around the world, including the New York City Marathon, Paris Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore and many more. Through this sponsorship, ASICS aims to reach out to more serious runners in Malaysia and grow their market share in the region and beyond.
“Sponsoring the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012 will further elevate ASICS’ position as a leading sports apparel label in Malaysia. We find APBIM a regional and internationally renowned marathon for serious runners that resonate our creed and image. We would like to bring the ASICS running experience to marathon participants and look forward to expanding our footprint in Malaysia especially amongst serious runners through this strategic partnership,” said Ms. Kris Lee, Assistant Brand Manager of Giga Sports Sdn Bhd, official distributor of ASICS’ in Malaysia.
YB Danny Law Heng Kiang, Chairman of the Penang Tourism Development and Culture Committee and the Allianz Penang Bridge Marathon said, “ASICS and the APBIM share a number of important philosophies about high performance, growth and success. This common ground is the making of an exciting partnership. We are delighted to be announcing this inaugural partnership with ASICS, a company globally renowned as being synonymous with high performance and innovation. No other brand can lay claim to the fact that the majority of marathon runners worldwide wear Asics apparel, especially their shoes.”

In conjunction with ASICS’ sponsorship debut, ASICS has also organised a series of running clinics which will be held, leading up to the APBIM, to allow fellow runners to prepare themselves to be physically and mentally fit for the marathon, and to show participants the benefit of running. Date: 7th August 2012
Venue: Eastin Hotel
Time: 10.30 am.
The Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon (APBIM) 2012 is set to launch this 7 August at Eastin Hotel, Penang. The actual event will fall on 18 November 2012.
APBIM has been attracting people from all over the world. Last year, the total number of participants reached up to 27,500 runners compared to 24,000 in year 2010 and 19,000 in year 2009. This year, we have received approximately 20,000 registered participants to date since the registration opened on 28 April 2012.
For runners, please note that this may be the last time for you to run on the Penang Bridge as the Marathon will be moved to the Second Penang Bridge from next year onwards.
Those who have yet to register should do so, as soon as possible because the competitive run categories (full marathon, half marathon and 10k run) will be capped at 25,000 participants due to the limited number of Asics running vest and running bibs. However, there will be no limit on participants for the fun run category. The participation fee for each category is as follows:
